A Meaningful New Year
It's another New Year in the twinkling of an eye.... How fast time flies doesn't it??? Well, I spent quite an eventful day today... Met up with Jun Yun at SPH at 1pm to help pack the clothes to send to the tsunami victims....
However, being accident-prone, I sprained my right ankle while working on the boxes... N even knifed and blankets and stuff.....
We went in to help unpack them from the many boxes of clothes to seperate them into labelled boxes of adults, kids clothes and blankets and shoes myself in the chest while slashing open some boxes.... Thankfully, the wound isn't deep and just had a scar that some skin was scratched....
Now they have stopped collecting clothes cause it's overflowing the collection avenues and when we went into the SPH carpark after donating the cash into the $$$ boxes at the office, we understood why... The entire level one of the carpark was seriously overwhelmed by the clothes sent in by Singaporeans hoping to do something for the tsunami victims... Everywhere you can see stacks of boxes of clothes and bags and bags... At first the area was stacked high with boxes of all types and some with labels and some without...... However, they were not all labelled properly and all types were jumbled together.... Anyway, we first started with separating the boxes into different areas.... Coz they were all put together... Some boxes needed totally repacking too coz the boxes were about to burst....
Den it was decided that we should open up the boxes and repack straight away in front of us so that we need not transport to the front to repack and waste time... Then, we started slashing open boxes to check the contents and label them and resort them accordingly...
Finally, around 4pm, the boxes were all largely repacked and settled and the NSmen had all moved the boxes onto crates to bundle them to send... We went for refreshments and after while of snacking, we decided to go home.... Mean while, we made a friend, but .... i forgot her name... Dunno Patricia or Pa- something.... She's the same age as Wan Ling, from Katong Convent and is awaiting her O's results... Den I took the MRT home while Jun Yun and her went to Toa Payoh....
Tired beat now that I'm home... And with an aching ankle too.... But i'm glad i managed to start off the New Year in a positive way of helping charity!!!
