YEAH!!! I MANAGED THRU 3 PARTY!!
Saturday was HCA's children's party!! In the morning, I met Jasmine to go to Arab street to buy sweets to wrap up as gifts for the children at the party... Den we went to my house to wrap them into little bundles.. Had lunch den continued until 1pm before Jasmine reaslised the time and that we were late!!! I was supposed to be there early to prepare... Chern Yue joined us too just as we were leaving... As it was raining heavily , we took a cab to HCA... Many had not arrived yet too due to the torrents....
Checked the items needed for teh games with my list and found out quite a few were missing.. Gradually got them all together and gave the rest of the games volunteers a briefing about the games.. Was abit nervous coz it's my first time working with them... But my experience in choir in AMK somehow helped me a little so managed to deliver something understandable...
Around 2.45, all the children finally arrived... It was supposed to start at 2pm but because of the heavy rains, the vans which went round to the homes to fetch the kids came in late and so all the programmes were reshuffled.... The skit started first til 3.15pm for teh tea break... My games started at 3.45... Kee Yih introduced me to the entire population as AUNTIE JIE JIE!!! So embarassing!!!!! Hmm!!! Coz I had ganged up with the volunteers to sabotage him for the role of Santa Claus... So he took revenge in front of so many people!! So malu leh... Everybody laugh... I'm not even 18 lor... Hmmm...
Den I took over the mike and nervously introduced the first game, Hankie Chase.. Everyone was supposed to sit in a circle and close their eyes and a catcher would walk round and put a hankie behind someone's back.. Den all would open their eyes and feel behind their back for it den the person who got it would chase the catcher... It was very funny watching the kids play as I cun instruct them very well and they were abit confused and just ran round trying to catch the catcher and din know that the catcher shud sit down ASAP ..... So it was a time of mess and chase and laughs...
4pm, we played Novelty game.. They have to cross 3 hurdles, teh straw & rubber band, the spoon & ping pong ball, and the balloon... As I was very disorganised, it was some time before everyone was settled into groups and understood my intentions... Or i din tink the children actually understood what the game was about and therefore i asked my frens from SR who were volunteering too to be group leaders and watch out for them... It was another round of laughters as they tried competing to be the fastest group...
4.20pm, we had the costume contest where the children made costumes out of newspapers... It was an encouraging sight seeing them so involved in coming up with a costume.. Similarly I got my frens again to help out... In my haste, I left out the other volunteers whom I had talked to earlier about being leaders.... I only reaslised it the next day and felt so bad about it...
There were costumes like princess, fairy, witch, baju kurong and painter... It was really very interesting!! Den Santa Claus came to give the presents and goody bags to the children... It was really a very happy event!! I'm so glad I got involved... N it was a good thing I sabo Kee Yih for Santa as the new guy he got to be Santa Claus wun have known what to do and been bubbly enuf to fit Santa's image... I hope to organise the party again nexzt june, and hope that I would have improved enuf to be less nervous and not leave out anyone and make my opening and ending speeches appropriately... N Chern Yue wnts to join me again next year too!!
